Instructions:
Meatballs
- In a small bowl, combine 1 slice of bread with 1/6 cup of milk or water and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl add: ground beef, ground pork, "For J’s" Garlic Sea Salt, bread from step 1, 1 egg, black pepper, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 small onion diced, chopped fresh basil, and corn starch. Mix until well combined.
- Form 6.5 cm to 7.5 cm meatballs (12-16 meatballs) and set aside.
- Heat a large pot (6 quart pot) on medium heat, add olive oil. Add meatballs into the pot, cooking in batches so as to not overcrowd the pot. Sear meatballs for 6-8 minutes, turning every 2 minutes. Set meatballs aside on a plate, repeat till all meatballs are seared.
Spaghetti Sauce
- In the same pot you cooked the meatballs in, add olive oil, minced garlic, diced onion, and basil on medium heat and cook till onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add white wine, cook for 3 minutes to cook off alcohol.
- Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, vanilla extract, sugar and "For J’s" Garlic Sea Salt. More sugar and salt can be added to taste. Heat till it starts to bubble.
- Add meatballs into the pot, turn down heat to low and let simmer for 1 hour.
Spaghetti
- In a separate pot, boil water for spaghetti noodles or favorite noodles. Follow instruction for desired doneness.
- Drain pasta and set aside.
Assemble
- Place pasta into a bowl and add meatballs and sauce on top.
- Optional: grated parmesan or pecorino cheese on top and some fresh basil.
